Cayenne has developed its first platform technology, the AperFix™ System, to enable surgeons to perform anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using the hamstring and other soft tissue grafts. While many companies have developed various fixation devices for these grafts, they have not adequately addressed the fixation strength and postoperative laxity that are commonly associated with this procedure.

The AperFix™ System consists of femoral and tibial implants that are made from PEEK™ - polyetheretherketone, a material with well-documented strength, rigidity and radiolucency. The two implants are preloaded onto disposable handles for single-handed, rapid delivery, while active tension to the graft is applied simultaneously to eliminate graft laxity.

Each implant has been designed to utilize aperture fixation and tendon-bone compression, which have been found to be key factors for secure fixation and healing. Preliminary studies show the AperFix™ System to have high pull-out forces, plus superior aperture and tendon bone compression forces.

In addition to overcoming the limitations of today's ACL reconstruction products, the AperFix™ System is intuitive to use and easy to teach. The vast majority of orthopedic surgeons will be able to use the AperFix System to perform secure ACL reconstruction quickly and effectively.
