Heber C. Crockett, MD
Heber C. Crockett, MD, a co-founder of Cayenne, is an attending orthopedic surgeon at New West Sports Medicine in Kearney, NE and also serves as an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Nebraska. Dr. Crockett is the author of over 20 peer-reviewed orthopedic articles and has also authored a review textbook in the field of orthopedics. A graduate of the School of Medicine at the University of California in Los Angeles, CA, Dr. Crockett completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY. In 1998, Dr. Crockett completed a fellowship in sports medicine with Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, AL.
Steven L. Gex
Steven L. Gex, a founding member of the Cayenne Board of Directors, is presently the Chief Executive Officer of BioLucent and a former Chairman of the Board of Opus Medical. Before joining BioLucent, Mr. Gex held the positions of President and Chief Executive Officer of Biopsys Medical. Mr. Gex has also served as Vice President of Marketing at Laurus Medical Corp and Applied Medical Resources, both of which he co-founded. Additionally, Mr. Gex has held senior management positions in marketing, business development and manufacturing operations at Edwards Laboratories, a division of American Hospital Supply Corporation. Mr. Gex holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from San Diego State University in San Diego, CA.
David W. Stassen
David W. Stassen is a founding Managing Director of Split Rock Partners and a member of the firm's healthcare investment team. While his investing purview spans the country, David focuses particularly on the strong medical technology industry in Minnesota. Prior to founding Split Rock Partners, David was a General Partner with St. Paul Venture Capital's healthcare team. He rejoined St. Paul Venture Capital in 2000, nine years after he left the firm to lead Spine-Tech, an emerging growth company specializing in development and marketing of revolutionary spinal implant products. David led Spine-Tech from its formation in 1991 through growth in revenue to over $100 million. The company was acquired in January 1998 for over $600 million. David began his business career with IBM Corporation. He holds a bachelor's degree in quantitative methods and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN.
Michael C. Sherman
Michael C. Sherman has been a partner of MB Venture Partners since he joined the firm after a successful 15-year career at Memphis-based Medtronic Sofamor Danek (MSD), a subsidiary of Medtronic. Michael joined Danek as the Director of Product Development in early 1991. In 1999, Michael assumed the position of Vice President of Technology Development where he was responsible for technical and business due diligence on acquisitions, in-licensing activities, and strategic investments. Michael is an inventor of MSD's SEXTANT System and has 66 issued US patents with over 30 pending applications. Michael received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas, Southwestern Graduate School in Dallas, TX.
James W. Hart
James W. Hart, a co-founder of Cayenne, has served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board since its inception. Prior to joining Cayenne, Mr. Hart was President and Chief Executive Officer of Opus Medical, where he led its successful acquisition by ArthroCare Corporation in 2004. Prior to this, Mr. Hart was President, Chief Operating Officer and a Director of Orthopaedic Biosystems, Inc. (OBL). Mr. Hart was instrumental in accelerating growth at OBL and successfully sold the business to Smith & Nephew in November of 2000. Prior to joining OBL, Mr. Hart was Vice President of Strategic Marketing for Zimmer, Inc. He has also held positions at Johnson & Johnson and Procter & Gamble and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of IsoTis OrthoBiologics and Peak Surgical. Mr. Hart's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, and the Executive Program at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business in Palo Alto, CA.
Stephen M. Campe
Stephen M. Campe has been Managing Director at Investor Growth Capital since 1998 and is based in IGC's New York office. He is Co-Head of IGC's Healthcare investing activities, and focuses on medical devices, diagnostic technologies and healthcare services.
Prior to joining IGC, Steve was a consultant at McKinsey & Co. where he worked on corporate finance and strategy engagements for several diversified healthcare and industrial companies. Prior to McKinsey, he was an investment banker specializing primarily in mergers and acquisitions for medical technology and diagnostics companies.
Steve earned an M.B.A. from Yale School of Management and a B.S. in Economics and a B.A. in Systems Science Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He currently serves as a board member of several companies including Applied Spine, Galil Medical, CHF Solutions and Intuity Medical. Over the past ten years, Steve has led numerous medical technology investments on behalf of IGC, including notable companies such as Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ: ISRG) and Kyphon (acquired by Medtronic).
